Our 4 top tips for boosting fat metabolism

Here at Body Catalyst we like to take a holistic approach; pairing our technologies with informed nutritional advice and suggestions to help you become the best version of yourself.

The beauty of our treatments for fat reduction is that they are non-invasive and non-surgical and therefore use the body’s natural elimination process to get rid of toxins. It’s a gentle (yet effective!) approach. One of our treatments, known as ‘fat cavitation’ offers instant fat loss by emitting low frequency ultrasound waves in the treated area causing the fat cells to burst. This process subsequently releases the triglycerides and cholesterol that are metabolised through the liver. Needless to say, the cleaner and healthier the liver; the better prepped we are to shift those extra kilos.

Once you’re outside of the treatment room, it’s empowering to understand how the process of how we personally metabolise fat. Triglycerides and other fatty acids are stored in our adipose tissue. Our body relies on these stores when our glucose levels are running low. Besides the primary organ for detoxification, our liver is the powerhouse for metabolic functions in the body, converting nutrients for storage, usage and cell supply. During fat metabolism, the liver cells break down our triglycerides to be used as a form of energy. Now, this process occurs minimally on a daily basis, but with the right knowledge, we can all supercharge it.

Dietary intervention and specific exercises can improve liver and gut functioning, which are vital for boosting fat metabolism, here are our tips:

Start your morning with apple cider vinegar (with the mother). Stir 1-2 tbsp of ACV into a glass of warm water. Adding a squeeze of lemon, crushed ginger or a tsp of honey can improve its taste. The acid in the vinegar improves gastrointestinal health and promotes the growth of friendly bacteria.

Increase healthy sources of protein at each meal. Protein not only keeps us reaching into the biscuit jar come 4pm, but also helps to build and maintain lean muscle mass. The good news is the more muscle we have the higher our metabolic rate. Aim for 30g at every meal.

Swap hours on the treadmill to HIIT. Perfect for those with limited time, HIIT is the fast and furious of the workouts. Follow the rule of 20 seconds of high intensity activity, pushing yourself to 80% of your maximum, followed by 10 seconds of rest. Repeat 10 times and perform 3 repetitions of this sequence for a 15-minute fat burner.

Incorporate a supplement. As a qualified nutritionist, my top supplement for promoting fat elimination is Vita Sol’s healthy liver and gut support. In her range of products, Fiona Tuck targets two major pathways responsible for excess fat elimination. Body Catalyst loves the organic combination of alkaline greens and sprout blend that maintains proper liver and gut function. Fiona’s philosophy matches Body Catalyst’s vision of a holistic approach to achieving your body goals to target specific concerns and to provide the latest scientific and nutritional research.

So next time you come in for a treatment at Body Catalyst, remember the process of reaching your body goals doesn’t just stop when you walk out the door. Love your liver back and give it a helping hand!
